A hosted service, or code you run
ElevenLabs Dubbing is a hosted service that dubs content in 90+ languages in a voice clone of the original speaker [1]. As an ElevenLabs dubbing alternative, OpenDub does the same core job, translating the speech and speaking it in the speaker's voice, but every step is open source code, and the separation, timing, mixing and rendering run on your own device [2]. With the free OmniVoice voice in the app on your computer, the voice runs there too, so nothing of the video leaves the computer [3].

What the open source ElevenLabs dubbing alternative is made of
- Separation: Demucs splits the voice from the music and effects.
- Speech detection: Silero VAD.
- Timing and transcription: Whisper.
- Translation: opus-mt models or Chrome's own translator on your device for the free routes, or the Higgs Audio chat model with a key.
- Voice: OmniVoice (code Apache-2.0, weights for non-commercial use only), Higgs Audio from Boson AI, or ElevenLabs.
- Rendering: ffmpeg.
All of it is in the OpenDub repository, and the app on your computer runs it with no length limit. From a clone of the repository, .venv/bin/python -m opendub.pipeline video.mp4 --to ja also dubs a file with no page at all, with a Higgs Audio key.
Use ElevenLabs inside OpenDub
An ElevenLabs dubbing alternative does not have to leave ElevenLabs behind. On opendub.app, with your own ElevenLabs API key, OpenDub uses ElevenLabs' Scribe and instant voice cloning as its voice, and you pay ElevenLabs directly [2]. The page creates a temporary cloned voice in your own ElevenLabs account and deletes it as soon as the dub ends [3]. OpenDub does not use ElevenLabs for the translation: it translates with a Higgs Audio key or, without one, on your device [3]. Your key is held in the page's memory for that one dub and never stored [3].
When ElevenLabs Dubbing fits better
- You need a language OpenDub does not have. ElevenLabs lists 90+ [1]; OpenDub has 17.
- You need a free cloned voice for commercial work. OmniVoice's weights are for non-commercial use only; in OpenDub, commercial work with a cloned voice means your own Higgs Audio or ElevenLabs key.
- You want a hosted service and nothing on your computer. OpenDub's cloned free voice needs the app.
When this ElevenLabs dubbing alternative fits better
- You want open source code you can read and run. OpenDub is AGPL-3.0-or-later [4].
- The video should not leave your device. With OmniVoice, nothing of it does [3].
- Your videos are long. The app has no length limit; see AI dubbing for long videos.
- You want a free cloned voice for your own, non-commercial videos. OmniVoice is free; see Local AI dubbing.
- You want to fix single lines. In the app you can change one line's translation, tone or timing and re-dub only that line [2].
What this ElevenLabs dubbing alternative does not do
- No lip sync. OpenDub replaces the voice and leaves the picture as it is.
- No links. It works on a video file on your own device.
- The free cloned voice is slow, about 15–35 seconds a line on a laptop CPU, and for non-commercial use.
- The browser stops at five minutes per video, and the free browser voice is a stock voice.
- The Mac download is for Apple Silicon.
OpenDub is not affiliated with ElevenLabs. For a comparison with another hosted video translator, see the HeyGen alternative page.

Questions
Is there an open source alternative to ElevenLabs dubbing?
Yes. OpenDub (opendub.app) is open source AI dubbing under AGPL-3.0-or-later. It translates a video into one of 17 languages and speaks it in a clone of the speaker's voice, with subtitles; the free cloned voice, OmniVoice, runs in the OpenDub app on your computer.
Is this ElevenLabs dubbing alternative free?
The software is free. OmniVoice is free, for non-commercial use. In the browser, a free stock voice dubs English into 8 other languages and 13 other languages into English, for videos up to five minutes. With Higgs Audio or ElevenLabs you use your own key and pay that provider.
Can I still use ElevenLabs voices with this ElevenLabs dubbing alternative?
Yes. On opendub.app, with your own ElevenLabs API key, OpenDub uses ElevenLabs for the transcription and the cloned voice, and you pay ElevenLabs directly.
Can I run it on my own computer?
Yes. This ElevenLabs dubbing alternative runs in the OpenDub app, which has downloads for Mac (Apple Silicon) and Windows and a one-line install for macOS and Linux, and it has no length limit.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video stays on your device. With a cloud voice, only speech clips and text go to that provider; with OmniVoice, nothing leaves the computer.
Does it sync the lips?
No. OpenDub replaces the voice and leaves the picture as it is. Each dubbed line is timed to last as long as the speaker took to say it.
Is OpenDub part of ElevenLabs?
No. OpenDub is not affiliated with ElevenLabs.
