Privacy: OpenDub for Mac from the App Store.
Last updated 25 October 2026. This page describes OpenDub for Mac as distributed through the Mac App Store. That app has no account, no sign-in and nothing for sale, and it collects nothing about you. This website, the browser extension and the other downloads are described in the main privacy policy.
What is never collected
Your videos, their sound, their transcripts and their translations. The app dubs on your Mac. It has no analytics and no crash reporting, and it sends nothing to us: we have no server that receives anything from it.
What is kept on your Mac
- Your dubs (the video, the audio it separates, the transcript and the dub) and the voice models it downloads, in the app's own folder,
~/Library/Containers/com.opendub.app. Deleting the app deletes them. - A Higgs Audio key, only if you save one in the app, in the same folder and readable only by your user account. Clearing the key in the app removes it.
- Your language and voice choices.
What leaves your Mac when you dub
With the free voice (OmniVoice, “On your computer”), nothing. The first time, the app downloads the voice and speech models it does not carry from Hugging Face; nothing of yours is sent to download them, though Hugging Face sees the request, like any website.
With Higgs Audio or ElevenLabs, only if you choose one and enter your own API key: the speech from your video, to be transcribed; a voice sample of a few seconds, so the voice can be imitated; and the text of every line, to be translated and spoken. These requests go from your Mac straight to that provider, under your own account with it, and never through us. With ElevenLabs, the temporary cloned voice is deleted from your ElevenLabs account when the dub ends. The video file itself is never sent. What a provider keeps is governed by its own policy and your account with it.
The app's own server
OpenDub runs a small server on your Mac at 127.0.0.1:8910, which only programs on your Mac can reach. The app's window is served by it, and opendub.app or the OpenDub browser extension on the same Mac can use its free voice.
Children
OpenDub is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly hold data about them.
